One unified model of Swiss land.

Upatr combines Switzerland's authoritative land data into a single, queryable model — for a time in which land is becoming scarcer and inward development is becoming the central task.

Why now · the law

Since 2014, Switzerland must build inward.

Swiss land is a much-debated subject. With the revised Spatial Planning Act, 2014 brought decades of urban sprawl to an end and placed a clear focus on inward densification. Inward densification is achieved not only through building-zone reserves, but also through transformation, adding storeys, change of use and the densification of gaps between buildings. What matters is optionality: in the face of a given need, being able to show diverse possible solutions and to base them on as many influencing factors as possible. Upatr wants to make these possibilities visible and comparable.

The unified model

Dozens of official sources, linked into one and easy to query.

The potential of inward development is manifold — but the information needed to recognise it is spread across numerous federal and cantonal sources that are not linked to one another. Upatr connects these data sources, makes them queryable together and thereby reveals development opportunities. The diversity of the data goes hand in hand with a diversity of searches and questions. This openness to the problem is part of our philosophy — at the same time, we are working to make indicators of potential easily accessible and to develop complex potential models in the background.

You are

Whoever deals with land — this is for you.

Federal law makes inward development mandatory for cantons and communes. But the same questions about land are asked far beyond government — wherever a parcel's potential, value or constraints matter.

The future of land

Make Switzerland's land legible.

Upatr is the intelligence layer for inward development — turning the country's scattered land data into answers anyone can ask for.
